Energy efficiency in communities: strategic steps for 2025
In early February 2025, the team of the Public Union UFEES held strategic meetings with representatives of resilient communities in the Lviv region. The Head of PU UFEES, Yehor Stefanovych, discussed key issues of energy-independent development with representatives of the Horodok, Mostyska, and Novoyavorivsk communities of Lviv Oblast, including energy efficiency, thermal modernization, and funding mechanisms for energy-efficient initiatives, such as preferential loans and grants from international donors.
This year, the focus is on developing local renewable energy projects, particularly the installation of solar power plants on municipal buildings, the implementation of energy cooperation programs, and the expansion of the thermal modernization system for residential buildings. With the support of international partners such as the EIB, communities will gain additional financial mechanisms to implement green initiatives.
The PU UFEES continues to unite all stakeholders to strengthen the energy independence of communities. In 2025, new projects for digital energy consumption monitoring will be launched within the initiative, enabling communities to manage resources more efficiently and reduce energy costs.
“Our task is to find the most effective financing tools and provide comprehensive support for communities in implementing energy efficiency programs and infrastructure renewal based on the principles of sustainable development and the best global practices,” emphasized Mr. Stefanovych during the meetings.
He also noted that the introduction of modern technologies, including smart grids and energy storage systems, will be a crucial step toward achieving energy independence for Ukrainian communities.
